Who am I?

My name is Sean Riley. I am a father, educator, mentor, and head boys’ basketball coach at New Foundations Charter High School in Northeast Philadelphia. For the last 15+ years I’ve been on the floor and in the classroom with kids from every background - coaching varsity and JV, running study halls and film sessions, and building young men through our male mentorship program.

On top of my work at NFCHS, I’ve coached at the college level at Chesnut Hill College and Penn State Abington, and I got my first head coaching position at Tacony Academy Charter High School. I’ve also coached on the AAU circuit with K-Low Elite, an Adidas-sponsored program backed by Kyle Lowry.

Those experiences let me see the game from every angle- middle school, high school, college, and AAU- and they all shape how I train and mentor players today.

I’m not just a trainer who rents a gym a few hours a week. NFCHS is home base. I see these kids in the hallways, in the classroom, in the cafeteria, and on the court. I know what they’re dealing with at school, at home, and in the city. That’s why my approach has always been bigger than cones and highlights- it’s about helping them grow as players and people.

I’m obsessed with details- footwork, angles, reads, body language, effort. Any age, any skill level, any position, I break the game down in a way every player can understand. That’s the heart behind IQ Sports Performance & Training.

Why IQ sports performance & training exists?

IQ exists because kids don’t just need a workout, they need someone to teach them the game, hold them accountable, and believe in them consistently.

I started IQ Sports Performance & Training to be a trusted hub in Philly where:

  • Players get real skill development that actually transfers to games

  • Kids are coached, not just rebounded for

  • Parents know their child is in a safe, structured, positive environment

  • Basketball is used as a vehicle to teach discipline, confidence, and life skills

Everything I do with IQ is connected to what I do every day at NFCHS, educating, mentoring, and building a standard. It’s a place where middle school, high school, and college players can come to work, get honest feedback, and be pushed the right way.

Why families choose Iq Sports performance

  • Proven development system (6th summer running)

  • Structured, intentional curriculum

  • Small group environment

  • Access to elite training tools

  • Trusted within the school and community

  • Clear standards and accountability

This is not a drop-in camp. It’s a development program.

My promise to families

TO PARENTS:

I will treat your child like one of my own players. They will be coached hard and loved hard. I will communicate honestly about where they are and what they need. When they’re with me, they will be safe, challenged, respected, and held to a standard on and off the court.

You can expect:

  • Clear expectations and boundaries

  • Real teaching, not just “busy drills”

  • A focus on school, character, and attitude along with basketball

TO PLAYERS:

If you show up and are willing to work, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow. I’m going to correct you, push you, and hold you accountable but I’ll also explain the why behind everything we do.

You can expect:

  • Details on your game that most people overlook

  • Game-like reps, real feedback, and real results

  • A coach who believes in you and wants to see you win in basketball and in life

Any age, any skill level, we break the game down so every player can level up. Details matter.
